Common Rinnai Error Codes in Triangle Homes

Code 11 — No Ignition

The Rinnai equivalent of Navien E003. Gas is not igniting at the burner. Causes: failed igniter, failed flame rod, gas supply issue, blocked vent. Requires hands-on diagnosis to determine root cause.

Code 12 — Flame Failure

Burner ignited but flame was lost during operation. Similar to Code 11 but flame was established before failing. Most common cause in Triangle homes: gas pressure drop under full draw demand, usually a gas line sizing issue or a shared supply line with other high-BTU appliances.

Code 14 — Thermal Fuse

The thermal fuse has opened due to overheating. Almost always caused by scale restriction in the heat exchanger on Triangle installations without annual descaling. The thermal fuse must be replaced and the heat exchanger descaled to prevent recurrence.

Code 25 — Condensate Neutralizer

Condensate drain is blocked or the neutralizer cartridge is exhausted (RU series condensing units only). Annual neutralizer cartridge replacement and drain trap cleaning prevents this fault.

Code 65 — Water Volume Control Valve

The water volume control valve or bypass valve is not operating correctly. Can cause inconsistent hot water temperature or unit not activating at low flow. Usually a valve cleaning or replacement.

LC Code — Scale Buildup Alert

Rinnai units display LC (or a count like LC0 through LC8) when the unit’s internal flow sensor detects progressive scale restriction. LC0 is a reminder, LC8 means severe restriction requiring immediate descaling. In Triangle water without a softener, most Rinnai units reach LC2 to LC4 within 2 to 3 years. Annual descaling resets the counter and restores flow.

Rinnai Service Reminder Reset

After a descaling service, the Rinnai service reminder light and LC counter must be manually reset. We reset the counter at the end of every descaling visit.
